Councilmember Liu Introduces Memorandum to Develop a 2026 City-wide Lunar New Year Event
Updated December 11, 2025 | Originally Published December 4, 2025
Update: City Council approved Councilmember Liu's request for the City to facilitate a Lunar New Year event in 2026, in partnership with multiple organizations. Staff to return to the City Council in the future 2026 meeting.
Irvine is home to many community organizations that organize their own Lunar Year celebrations, ranging from academic institutions to local neighborhood events. With over 45% of residents identifying as Asian American Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANH), hosting a City-wide Lunar New Year celebration in 2026 would showcase the City's dedication to cultural inclusivity. Therefore, Councilmember Liu introduced a memorandum requesting that the City Council instruct City Staff to bring everyone together to a City-wide Lunar New Year event in 2026.
